Regards Sir, just loved this video! I had complete electronics classes here in the US thirty-five years ago and we had tons of experiments like this to learn about components and what each did and how to use them in a circuit. When I finished though, I make a left-hand turn and went into the electrician trades and never looked back. I'm going to take a look at your other projects and start back in now that I'm retired. This looks like a wonderful place to start. Thank you for taking your time to post this, I can't wait to get started... Cheers.

I made this transmitter. First coil was that 4 rounds ab. 0.5mm Cu. The maindly Fq was in 118-120 Mhz! That's really near the aviation frequencies ( I live here really close the airport.)  I'll shut down the tx and fast, hi! I made a new coil.. Now it's have 6 rounds and the Fq is really nice ab. 98-106 Mhz and stabile. Thanks! 73's Max.

Different component values on video via list. Is that Elko 1uF or 10uF?
Report spam or abuse
You can use a 1uf upto a 100uf
Report spam or abuse
Nice video. I will try to build one. Noticed you pronounce capacitor as "capacitator".
Report spam or abuse
another great vid daz, 1 question? why do you call them capacitators?  is that an old fashioned word for them?  thanks m8
Report spam or abuse
In England they are called capacitators because they are made from aluminium.

Made transmitter works brilliant, thanks for a great video

sorry for the noob question, But why is the neg. lead of the electrolytic "floating" above the ground plane? I see that the + side of the mike is connected there also. is the - side of the cap the input of the mike then? Could you have connected the + side of the mike to the Base of the transistor and joined the neg leads of cap and mike to the ground plane? thanks

Except that this design will not actually produce ANY FM it is more likely to be a mix of AM & FM. There is no varactor diode to modulate the carrier with the audio signal as in a VCO Novel way of building it though if you don't like Ferric Chloride and making PCB's Likely to be quite stable with all that copper ground plane too Now make the stereo version then :@) G7HMJ

Built this & it works great. Question. If I wanted to replace the audio in with an electret mic would I have to change any of the resistor / capacitor values & if so any advice on values? Many Thanks.

Having a "hemostat" in your toolbox will help put to rest some of the concerns about heat damage to semiconductors. Before applying heat to any of those wires, clamp the hemostat on the wire and a lot of the heat will be absorbed by the hemostat. Have fun guys...

This type of transmitter is known as a `oner` in HAM radio, its nothing new,and has been around for years,it gives of a lot of 2nd and 3rd harmonics

im scared to connect the audio input and soldering the suplly connection because lighting is darker and ur hand is bloacking d view ...and it was not printed on the diagram ..can u help ..ur a great help by the way

Can I use this transistor BC337-40 , I can't find BC338 ....
Report spam or abuse
I enjoy your videos which I find interesting and informative, but WHY do you insist on calling capacitors CAPACITATORS? It's so annoying.
Report spam or abuse
Yes ,10 years ago ,i built a 150 watt transmitter using a MRF150 transistor for the RF output ,good fun!
Report spam or abuse
I like how you say you can do it in 5 minutes at the beginning but it takes you 24 minutes to do it, and the video is sped up.

I bought and am using a 7 Watt (Goes VERY far!) FM Stereo Transmitter. (Stereo is Key!) has 2 inputs which one is for music and other for a microphone.

Please see my other videos ,they have the electret mics.
Report spam or abuse
would it still work if you replaced the audio jack with a microphone?
Report spam or abuse
You can ,but only if the amp needs a very low input to drive it ,say about 5-10mw RF power.
Report spam or abuse
how much for that kit ? im in brum
Report spam or abuse
That is amazing I want to learn how to do that but were do I get the parts or how much they cost

5 minute job?? so why is the video 25 minute's long?
Report spam or abuse
Where did u get the parts and could I plz have the name of all d parts
Report spam or abuse
One trouble with this design is that the antenna capacitance will affect the modulation frequency. So moving your hand closer (for example) to it will likely shift the frequency enough to cause distortion.
Report spam or abuse
i used BC547B, it did not worked.. How do i measure the frequency the transmitter is running at?? i have an oscilloscope, but it only goes up to 40mhz

May I ask if BC548 will work fine? and any link for the schematic? Thanks a lot sir!:)

Have u ever made a real powerful one with say 48v Vcc and a big mosfet?
Report spam or abuse
is there any boost for that transmitter?? so that i can reach like 10 kilometers?? thanks
Report spam or abuse
is der any alternate for the audio input and the two side wire connected to the mp3 player?? or is there any online site where u can get it
Report spam or abuse
thanks for that great job, so i have a quiz: will the transmittion frequency affect of this radio affect /replce another station in the area? or will it use it own idependent frequency? thanks for your time

ar ah i get it ! its in fm but not stereo yea yea yea i get it now thanks

I've never heard of capacitators. Are they a cross between a capacitor and a potato?
Report spam or abuse
He's English. They only recently stopped calling transistors "valves". People in other parts of the world do things differently. Get over it.
Report spam or abuse
@dazaro3 why do you call it a capacitator??? its a capacitor!
Report spam or abuse
All you can do or should do is get a Basic Electronics book. You can ACE that in a month or less. A old book or new will do. I now know EVERY every electronic part there is and how its made and works.

Hey dazaro, could you make a video of how to build the same radio station, but on print circuit board?

Well I did find the page you were talking about but it only explains the circuit that has 2 transmitters. It would be great if you could provide a link that has an explanation to the circuit that you have built here. And I am really very grateful to see the reply here :) Please do help me out.

Brilliant m8 I thought you were going to leave the camera recording the FM radio while you went back down stairs and talked to the transmitter so we can hear what a human voice sounds like over it ?

Report spam or abuse
A Potentiometer will not work ,thats a three-terminal resistor. The trimmer used in this transmitter is a trimmer variable capacitor. You can replace the trimmer with a 10pf or 15pf ceramic capacitor and then adjust the FM frequency by stretching or compressing the coil.
Report spam or abuse
I dont know much about electronics and this may sound like a stupid question but how can it be in fm with only two wires on jack plug thanks
Report spam or abuse
What is the transmitting range of this project ?
Report spam or abuse
It's a novel litte project not intended top be a serious transmitter for a serious radio station - It drifts a bit so.
Report spam or abuse
Beautifully done.. one question as i came in after you started,my son called me. Whats that pen with the blue cap on it for? is it merely to tap connections flat for Solderring OR is it some sort of flux applicator ???
Report spam or abuse
Yes you can ,please see my other videos ,i do make such a FM Transmitter where i use a Mic.
Report spam or abuse
The coil is made from enamel Wire of 0.5mm Diameter wire formed on a 5.5mm drill bit ,4 turns. And did say at 40s its a 5mm coil.
Report spam or abuse
Sorry ,that will not work ,its only a simple FM transmitter.58Mhz is a bit low for this type of transmitter and trying to get the frequency stable will be very hard.
Report spam or abuse
hi i was wondering if i can replace the Audio input plug with a small mic? thanks.

So, can I hijack radio stations and play my own music through this?
