Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) (Video)

by kennylavish • 4,915,076 views

FROM THE ALBUM "MECCA AND THE SOUL BROTHER" (1992).

At the end of the day, after all of my years diving deep into hip hop in all its forms, being one of the biggest pieces of my life, this is still to me the greatest hip hop song of all time.

I'm not perfect but my good outweighs my bad. I don't judge anyone because you gotta mirror yourself and reflect on your actions to become a better you. You always got to be honest with yourself. I don't judge no one because my life and I'm not perfect!! Everything you go through makes you the person you are today. I don't have no regrets in life, everything was supposed to happen this way no matter the outcome. I own everything I do down this mother fucker, I'm gonna always be real wit me. King that's your experience no matter the outcome, you gotta go thru things to know the difference for later!!! At least you didn't cheat yourself out of any enjoyments in life. Hatap King!!! You are truly A King in your own right!!!!

Goddamn, this day is bringin tears to my eyes. Old school rules!!!!

All these kids on here saying "I was born in 98" or whatever and "I wish I lived in this era", it's up to y'all to keep this shit here alive, the more you buy that new shit, that fake shit, the more you support that, then the more blessings like this right here die, you gotta grab that brass ring and pass this torch, real hip hop is on serious life support, look around, something's gotta give quick
Report spam or abuse
+Gregory Spielman You're so right on that one! I was born in 93 and i always listen to music of my childhood. Early 90s and early 2000s because they talk about things that we all can relate to. They didn't talk about money, cars, women, and that other material crap. People want to talk about that crap, but it's better to talk about that when you're already rich, not when you don't even have your first millions yet. Rappers these days only rap on the beat where the lyrics are straight shit and have no meaning whatsoever. Most rappers these days don't even have a very good flow anyway, especially the new rappers coming in. We have to bring old school back and talk about things that people can relate to because people my age who listen to this crap can't relate to it because we all don't have money, fast cars, women, houses, and all of that stuff. We can only talk about the reality, crime, and other things we face everyday on a day-to-day basis.

I love how they sampled some happy hippy song and then slowed down the tempo to give the track that dark feel to it
Report spam or abuse
word sampling and chopping and screwing breaks is an art form unto itself...dudes spend years trying to perfect that shit... but honestly the lyrics are what i love most about this track... my childhood experience and family are highly similar is many respects... just one of those relatable joints that almost anyone from the other side of the tracks can relate to

The greatest rap song ever. It's not only ghetto but it's mature. It reminds you of all the people in the hood that actually made you into a man

All you young people need to stop dissing your own generation because you have a great opportunity to take it further. All of us older people need to realize that hip hop has done its job for the purpose it was intended. Let's move on to create the next level of music now. There is a generational change in music every 10 years. It seems like it's always easier for the present generation to appreciate preceding generations of music than it is for the older generations to appreciate the current generations' style of music and feel in it what the present generation feels in it.

Its kind of impossible for people of this era to understand today's hip-hop of hustler ethics and overblown egos. But that's the main point, it is easier to get you "feeling some type of way" then "thinking some type of way" for marketing purpose of course.

could not agree more with most of the comments here. maybe one of the few songs on youtube with little to no hate comments, and it is because of its greatness. and yes, one of the only songs that tear my eyes up. brilliant. still remember the day I bought this tape, even the smell of it. Guess reminiscing is a part of growing old. Best song ever.
