The Original 1984 Macintosh Introduction: the magic moment, when Steve Jobs unveils the Macintosh and releases it from its bag. We've found these historical lost videos in 2004 and restored and...

It doesn't matter if you prefer Windows, Mac or Linux. If you like home computers, this is probably one of the most important moments of all time

I've gone through 7 windows laptops in the last 8 years.  I still have my iMac that I purchased in 2006 and it still runs as fast as the day I purchased it.

+Leif Ashley "my gaming rig is my wife's old desktop".... ok... we can each repeat ourselves many times it doesn't change the fact that I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. EVER. some have had problems with windows. makes sense, hundreds of millions of hardware possibilities/drivers.  what doesn't make sense... my friend with a newish mac tower. "I don't upgrade the the OS right away because when I do it runs slow and shitty and crashes". that was last year. pretty sad. Windows has been bullet proof since windows 7. That's 6 years.  So was your first mac the mac mini? If so you're pretty late on the mac wagon, 2005 or after... so... how stable was mac before those days? how "awesome" was a mac in '97, when Micro$oft wrote em a $150 Million dollar cheque just for the write off and to keep a competitor alive to avoid more antitrust suits. If apple is SOOOOOOO much better, why did you use windows after 3.1?  Maybe it's just that it took about this long for computers to become stable, apple or otherwise. and maybe everyone just has long memories of the bad ol days of running windows.
Report spam or abuse
+Dave H " I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. EVER", then you started at windows 7 and never used anything else... windows is terrible. It's literally the worst OS I've ever used. Your friend is full of crap. OSX is so stable, I used it for development on a corporate project IN BETA. Windows was "good" in windows 7, and by that I mean it worked well and didn't crash as much. However, zero, and I mean zero new features to get a stable OS and I had to PAY for the damn upgrade. Macs, you get the OS upgrades for free, and they are always rock solid. My first mac was a 2011 Macbook Pro 15 I used in 2012, and yea I was late. I was an Apple hater, imagine that. After 3 months of hard core development on it, and never rebooting it once, I was just impressed. Just leave it running, open the lid and keep going. Before that, every since OSX, mac has been exceedingly stable... it's UNIX. Before that, meh well, that's before Jobs came in and fired everyone, so. I remember MS investing money and owning shared in Apple, not giving them free money. Back in the 3.1 days, I had an Amiga and it was awesome sauce in a can. OS/2 I'd hoped would be the replacement after Commodore went under, and it had a good core, but the thing was a nightmare to use. Windows for a LONG time was the only mainstream option. Man the 90s were painful. I think it took this long for Apple to get sorted out and put a leader at the helm. I'm concerned about where it'd headed myself, but that's my opinion. For now, they make the best stuff on the globe for personal computing... although the Google IO blew me away this year. So at least they're going to make Apple earn their pay ;)

Why are there a number of videos about Steve Jobs on YouTube whose title claims to have been lost? If they had been lost, who found them? Where did they find them? How did they get lost in the first place?

And a lot of people fell for it. Why would anyone who knows anything about computers use a Mac?

+AndroidDoctorr I'm a software developer and I use a Mac. More-so I'm a Windows software developer. OS X is a better operating system in my professional opinion, and the build quality of Macs are phenomenal and bar none to anything else out there. That's why I use a Mac.

The features didn't age well, but the thunderous applause was for everything that was new. Full-screen animation was new. High-resolution imagery was new (even if it was black and white). Font rendering (and MacWrite) was new. Bitmapped UI with windows and menus was new (if inspired by Xerox). Drawing using a single-button mouse in MacPaint on a high-rez display was entirely new. Speech synthesis was almost unheard-of. Four-voice digital sound was new (and wasn't even demoed, and took YEARS before it even showed up on SoundBlaster for PC). Filenames that could be long and have spaces in them and not need to show file extensions, completely new. Icons, etc. all new. While the Mac isn't known for gaming, the early Mac games were the best games available at the time, on any platform. Dark Castle was legendary. MacGolf was the first golf game. The Alice-in-Wonderland chess game demoed here was called "Through The Looking Glass" and TO THIS DAY is the only game Apple has ever produced (ok, save for poker on the first iPhone!) (Jobs was unfortunately not a fan of games. I assume he already had to defend from accusations that the Mac was too "Fisher-Price". Hey, a man can't see EVERYthing.) I first encountered a Mac 128k in a computer store at the age of 12 and without realizing it, the entire course of my life had changed. After the sales rep demoed it, I sensed that something "insanely great" was afoot. Frankly it was probably the most amazing thing I had seen up until that point, and I was quickly obsessed. Fortunately, begging my parents to drop the 4 grand (!) it cost to buy that, an ImageWriter, and a 300 baud Apple modem, worked (to this day I have no idea why, as they have otherwise always been extremely frugal... I like to think that they saw something in my eyes), and a career in computers was born.

Stephan Wozniak designed this, Jobs just the front man for Wozniak who was more interested in the hardware and software than marketing.
Report spam or abuse
He did not in fact design this as he didn't even work in the Mac division. The first he ever saw of it was a prototype about a week before this announcement. Wozniak designed the apple one and apple II and also worked as a normal engineer at Apple since.

+Howard Selby Wozniak did not design the Mac. He designed some of the previous Apple computers, but not the Mac.

University computer science student speaking here. Why did I buy a macbook pro? Because of: Wonderful screen (nice resolution, and very good color reproduction), very good battery life, very decent weight, good keyboard, one of the best touch pads.. And not to talk about the build quality, there is just no match in Windows pc world. And OS X is still very decent OS, and for me, it just gives the peace of mind that I don't have to think about viruses and hardware problems so much.  I've used Windows computers ever since Windows 95 all the way to the windows 8.1, and I think that windows still has its place. I still will use my self-built windows pc for gaming and such, but it's now in much lower use, as I do all the internet and studying stuff with my macbook. Windows for: If you need cheap, relatively reliable and adaptive OS for everything from gaming to about anything else. Mac computers for: Very reliable, very good quality, well thought out product, for nearly everything else than playing modern games.

My husband came home from work in 1984 one day and said everyone in his department was being given a Macintosh computer. I said, what do we do with it? Thirty years later I am still on an Apple Mac  and Apple products and haven't changed.  Yes Macs are expensive, but Yes they do last longer than some others that I hear about  [even though after 3 years, Apple thinks it is old and at times is somewhat unsupportive :(  ] No they are not perfect and I have issues now and then with the software "Geeks" who make some good and some bad changes. BUT I still love MAC, and I wish I had the original Mac..bad mistake to get rid of it!!

Exactly. It just works, period. I spend 1/4 of the time searching for solutions on a mac that I did on a PC.

One of those "Case Modders" out there could have some fun with an used version this original 128K model. They could replace the screen with a current ultra hi-rez AMOLED screen and put in a Next Unit of Computing (NUC) sized Mother Board and a fast SSD Drive.. In essence, they would be creating a retro looking "Hack-N-Tosh" They would then be able to install the latest OSX Operating System version and do everything every one else who owns a current MAC can do.

Why is there still a debate like this? If you want a powerful thin machine buy a surface pro 3. If you want a insanely powerful thick machine buy the Alienware 19. If you want a desktop ask for the windows 8 and say please. If you want quality build with power and thinness buy the ultra book or zenbook macs can go flee. Microsoft has taken over every good computer while Steve jobs designs simple average power machines with good graphics and nice outside it just looks nice. Just wait till there are Apple consoles and apple furniture and apple transportation and Google collides with them and everyone is technology it's crazy how Apple wants to be the best at everything tablets its fare to say Apple does make the best phones probably but again if you like more control and customization Samsung but I think phones by them are good. That my friend is all Apple can do

+epickid 69iii The problem with all your solutions is that Windows is an absolutely horrible, buggy, UI-unfriendly, insecure, spyware-ridden, annoying-you-every-fucking -minute of an OS that is only good for gaming at this point. If you want to get real work done without being interrupted with crap like forced-reboots, you need a Mac.
