I transitioned for 10 months. My June 2, 2007 big chop made my 4th time being natural. I forgot about the time I cut off my relaxer to get a Jherri Curl. Being natural is unique for everyone. But being mentally prepared is perhaps the most common experience. Natural hair has grown in popularity and it may not be for everybody. Some people embark on this journey for the wrong reason and end up relaxing their hair.
MY NATURAL HAIR JOURNEY
I love my natural hair and it makes me happy. When I started wearing my hair in it’s natural state, a family member called it Nappy. . .I guess that makes me Nappylicious!
My natural hair journey began the day I got my last relaxer, August 8, 2006. For some reason, that day, I knew I’d had enough. Enough of juggling my schedule for the appointments, racing to the salon after a full day of work or getting up early on a Saturday to sit in a salon for hours. Enough of no matter how good my stylist was, the chemical burns. Enough of loving the bouncy hair when I left the salon chair, but not being able to maintain “the look” at home. Enough.
I decided to transition to natural hair – again and on purpose. I’d been natural a couple times before but it was my intention. This time, I was going to be natural and on purpose. This is my natural hair journey and it includes being a product junkie. It’s not that I glorify being a PJism but I do enjoy trying new hair products.
