Hurricane Matthew 100+mph winds cause powerlines to explode in Florida -10/07/2016:
Hurricane Matthew was the most recent costliest hurricane or tropical storm to impact the Florida Atlantic coast line in over a decade. Winds were well over 120mph as the hurricane eye neared Cocoa Beach, FL and still over 100mph as the storm worked its way up to Daytona Beach. The opening scene displays a massive and extremely close (less than 5 feet away) power line exploding due to Hurricane Matthew in Cocoa Beach Florida as intense winds where whipping the power lines around as I sought refuge in a parking garage near the Space Coast and the Cocoa Beach pier. The power flash was so close I was temporarily blinded.
The remaining hurricane Matthew footage includes power flashes across Cocoa Beach, FL as Hurricane Matthew reached its peak wind speeds as the eye of Hurricane Matthew remained off shore by only 8-11 miles. At the time this video was shot, Hurricane Matthew was unleashing 120+ mph winds during the heavy rain bands. Cocoa Beach Florida experienced it's first major category 4 hurricane in over 10 years and as a result suffered several million dollars in damage.
