This is the song "Ferdowsi in Love" from the S&S EMI/Higher Octave label release "Nostalgia". Ferdowsi is one of the undisputed giants of Persian literature. He created his masterpiece, the Shāhnāmeh, which is the most popular and influential national epics belonging to the Iranian people that at one time made up the greater Persian Empire. Though written about 1,000 years ago, this work is as intelligible to the average, modern Iranian as the King James version of the Bible is to a modern English-speaker. He is often compared to Homer or Shakespeare, but undoubtedly for Persian speakers is beyond such comparisons. May 15th, 2009 is National Ferdowsi Day.
