(continued...) Communism is loathsome. But part of whats so wrong w/ it is it places mans salvation in the earthly city, in mans own hands. My fear is that even though you dont mean to your emphasis on the Churchs approval of some albeit very qualified kind of capitalism gets the fundamental theological point wrong. There is NO salvation in the city of man gross injustices are (always) obtaining. Christians should never feel fully reconciled to any political/social mode beyond that of Christ himself.

Fr., I thank you for all your efforts forwarding the Catholic faith. All my comments here, all my objections are as a fellow traveler in the faith, one who disagrees over the point in question, but as a friend. -EB

Fr. weve probably spent too much time in a format not given to clarification! Still I feel misunderstood (as no doubt do you). Consider our hero Aquinas held usury to be immoral. Yet there could be no market at all w/ out usury. Reflecting on Aquinas reasons might give us more depth of understanding for what parts of the Churchs social teaching are historically embedded and what are perennial. I think your reading of JP II (& w/ it Church social teaching) is too clunky, too ex cathedra.

In your video you seem concerned w/ rescuing a non-corrupt, non-degraded form of capitalism and putting Church social teaching on its side. Several times you use the phrase gross injustices not obtaining in the context of trying to affirm an especially well functioning market system. But cant you see, from Christs perspective, from the perspective of Augustinian theology there is NO market & NO society & never will be in which gross injustices are not obtaining?

Hi all - great job with this series
i saw the new movie "The Boys Are Back" last night - staring Clive Owen

would be very interested in Fr Baron's take on it - is about a widower who has to come to terms with the death by cancer of his wife and then becoming a single Dad AND THEN trying to reconcile with an older son (14) from a previous marriage - i think Fr would be interested in the themes it deals with - themes that are rarely examined in cinema

Father Barron : I thought it would be interesting to hear your commentary on the movie "the box". Hint: I walked away thinking "mercy is an exclusively Christian commodity"

I love your videos, Father. Keep it going! I would like to encourage those who are reading this to dedicate some time for Eucharistic Adoration and the saying of The Rosary. This will change your life! These are perilous times for Christians and our religious liberty is being threatened on every side. Watch & Pray- God Bless.

I second what otoolehouse said; do a video about the disaffected Episcopalians "swimming the Tiber" and joining up with Rome.

If you all find the value of Fr. Barron's video clips, he is a particularly good writer as well. In his book 'Priority of Christ' you will gain a greater understanding of what his particular mission is.
