Richard Taylor (winner of five Academy Awards), head of Weta Workshop at the Wellington Armageddon Pulp Culture con (20-April-2008) shows that Weta are still incredibly enthusiastic about the possibility of help making a live action movie adaption of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

In 2003 ADV Films announced that in partnership with GAINAX and Weta Workshop that a live action movie adaption of the Japanese anime Neon Genesis Evangelion was to be produced. Unfortunately a downturn in the R1 region anime goods sales has resulted in ADV finding it difficult to come up with the required funds for the project and it has seemingly been put on indefinite hold.

Richard did also make mention that if everything had gone to plan the movie (first of three perhaps?) would have been out around the same time the Transformers movie was released. (less info)
