The Bradford Dragons Eurocamp has broken all previous attendance levels recruiting a record 144 campers for the week long basketball camp based at Bradford Colleges Trinity Green sports hall. Although the majority of campers have come from Bradford and West Yorkshire, basketball players have travelled from all corners of the UK and overseas from Hungary and Denmark to attend the annual Bradford Dragons Eurocamp.
The camp will be formally opened on Monday 20/7/09 at 2pm by Michael Kelly, Bradford MDCs Executive Member for Children & Young People. Michael played Rugby Union for 35 years - during the most serious part of his career for Sale FC and the latter part fun rugby for Ilkley. Stuart Culliford, the Bradford Dragons Eurocamp Organiser said, We are delighted to invite Malcolm Kelly to formally open the camp as we know he is a serious sports fan who supports sport across the Bradford district. We are grateful for the support we have received for this camp from Bradford Councils Leisure Services, from And1UK and from the 8th Earl of Sandwich Memorial Trust.
Despite the credit crunch and financial pressure on families, we have managed to create the biggest ever basketball camp in Bradford and the biggest in the north of England this year. We are particularly pleased to move the camp this year to the wonderful new sports facilities at Bradford College which gives us the facilities and central location we want to grow the camp
Campers will be put through a week of intensive coaching and competitive games under the direction of the founder of Eurocamp, Dr Laszlo Nemeth, formerly the national coach of England, Kuwait and Iceland. Dr Nemeth has recruited an outstanding group of Coaches [details below] for the Bradford camp.
Sports fans are also invited to the final afternoon of the camp on Friday 24/7/09 from 1.30 to 5.30pm to watch the finals of the camp competitions, All Star game and the eagerly awaited campers v staff game. Entrance is free and a great afternoon of basketball is in prospect.
For further details contact Stuart Culliford on 0781 661 0600 or 01274 590409, or email info@bradforddragons.co.uk or visit the Dragons website at www.bradforddragons.co.uk

West Yorkshire County Sports Partnership leads way in nurturing disabled athletes
A total of 79 young people from across West Yorkshire attended the country's first CAADC on Monday 23rd March as part of the Playground to Podium (P2P) initiative. The event was a lot of fun and gave the National Governing Bodies of Football, Athletics, Boccia, Table Tennis and Wheelchair Basketball the chance to assess the potential of talented athletes throughout the day. P2P is a national scheme developed by the Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, Paralympics GB and UK Sport to identify and develop the ability of disabled athletes supported by. This pilot event was the first of its kind in the country and on the whole the day was a real success with positive feedback from NGB's, schools and the young athletes. The number of young people in attendance was a reflection of the work being done through the School Sports Partnerships with the local Identifying Ability Days. As part of P2P, School Sports Partnerships are required to deliver 3 ability days per year with a selection of participants going forward to the West Yorkshire CAADC. Participants that have now been identified through the NGB coaching teams will be invited along to sports specific training squads and Centres of Excellence to further their experience of performance environments. Information was also provided to participants about sporting opportunities in their local communities. The event was organised by West Yorkshire Sport in association with the County FDSO development officer James Brown. "These kind of events are important because it gives the NGB's the opportunity to identify our Paralympians of the future. Alongside this we are able to promote the great work of community clubs across West Yorkshire that provide a range of opportunities for regular sports participation." said James.
"Congratulations to all involved and we hope to go from strength to strength with the P2P initiative and the West Yorkshire CAADC in the years to come."
