What is the reliability of the M1 garand in a boreal forest environment. 8 shots of .30-06 would be a nice advantage in this environment for bears. Most of those that are hunted here are hunted with a .30-06 so the round is abundant and proven.

How come you didn't show the most frustrating and important part of removing the Operating rod? More M1a / M14 owners are frustrated with this single step than anything else.

I am not saying the rest of the info wasn't good, they are great. But I have a heck of a time removing my Op Rod (only done it once since I purchased it in 2005). PLEASE POST A DETAILED VIDEO ON HOW TO REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL THE OP ROD, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! I am pretty much a novice guy as far as armory so I need a good tip from a good armorer. All the other stuff was great and thanks for that info wdiggeorge! Thanks again in advance.

Some op-rod "tabs" are very "full" and it is extremely difficult to remove even if you have it perfectly aligned with the take-down notch on the receiver. The best way to remove it is to use a Rubber Mallot and gently tap the op-rod out of the take-down notch.
