Tropical cyclone warning signals, the strong monsoon signal, as well as landslip and thunderstorm warnings in effect in Hong Kong are displayed on the upper-left hand portion of the image at the corresponding times.

In 1990, six tropical cyclones necessitated hoisting of tropical cyclone signals in Hong Kong. They were
1) T. Marian (瑪麗安) - May 17-18 (highest signal = No.3)
2) S.T.S. Nathan (彌敦) - June 17-18 (highest signal = No.3)
3) T. Percy (珀西) - Jun 28-29 (highest signal = No.1)
4) S.T.S. Tasha (泰莎) - July 28-31 (highest signal = No.3)
5) T. Becky (貝姬) - Aug. 27-28 (highest signal = No.3)
6) T. Ed (義德) - Sept. 14-17 (highest signal = No.1)
