Something Weird Color Me Blood Red

Color Me Blood Red was the last of the infamous "Blood Trilogy," (which was preceded by Blood Feast and Two Thousand Maniacs!). Shot in Sarasota Florida for less than $30,000 on a six day shooting schedule, it would be the last of twelve films made by partners DAVID F. FRIEDMAN and HERSHELL GORDON LEWIS in the early sixties. Egomaniacal artist, Adam Sorg (an over-the-top performance by DON JOSEPH, also in H.G. Lewis' Moonshine Mountain where he's billed as..."Adam Sorg"), makes up for a lack of artistic talent by accidentally discovering a new shad of crimson that turns his mediocre paintings into masterpieces -- fresh human blood! After squeezing as much of the new medium as he can out of his own sliced-up fingers, he stabs his girlfriend (ELYN WARNER) in the head with a palette knife, smears her bloody face on a canvas and -- voila! -- a macabre masterpiece is created! Bringing the painting to the local art gallery, Sorg unveils it to the horror and delight of the gallery owner (Blood Feasts's SCOTT HALL), an art critic (the beret is a dead giveaway), and rabid art collectors. Everyone goes ga-ga for the painting which, surprisingly, isn't for sale. - Something Weird
