1974 Hit off of their debut album "Check It Out" on the Capitol Records label. Written by Floyd Butler, and Billy Osborne. Group Members: Ralph Tavares, Arthur Tavares, Antone Tavares, Feliciano Tavares, Perry Tavares, and on lead Victor Tavares.

Lyrics:

If you need a strong hand
To guide you through the night

If you want someone who understands
Then things can't get uptight

If it means anything to you
To know that I care for you

Check it out
(Check it out)
Oh, check it out
(Check it out)

I understand complications
Can sometimes bring you down
(Pa, rar, rar, rar, pa)

But different situations
(Pa, rar, rar, rar, pa)
Dosen't always be around

And if it means anything to you
To know that I care for you

Check it out
(Check it out)
Baby, check it out
(Check it out)

Ohhh
(You know my love is here to stay)
And it will always be that way
Look at me
(Come on and look my way)
Ohhh, Look at me
(Our love is here to stay)

Ohhh
(Surely you must know)
My love will always grow
Can't you see
(Look in to my eyes, girl)
Mmmmm, Can't you see
(Look in to my eyes, girl)
Ooooo, can't you see
(Ain't a big surprise girl)

(There need not be a dreary day
For you to suffer through)
No, no, no, no
(If you would let me lead the way
I'd give the world to you)

And if it means anything to you
Hey
Check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Baby, check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Check out you're mine girl
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)

(Look in to my eyes, girl)
Look in to my eyes
(Ain't a big surprise girl)

Check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Mmmm, check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Check out you're mine
(Check it out, check it out, girl)
Ohh girl, check it out
(Check it out, check it out, girl)

(Look in to my eyes, girl)
Look in to my eyes
(Ain't a big surprise girl)

  • I hope nobody takes this as a racist statement, but i must say that blk ppl style of music from this era is the best music on earth....sorry if anybody was affended by this comment. I just don't know of any music that can make me feel like these 70s old school soul jams make me feel. The power in these jams never dies.....it is still just as powerful as they were back then. Thank you for posting this.

  • @DaStr8Truth: I am white and i totally agree with that statement and i don't see it as racist. Black ppl in my opinion are THE MOST musically gifted ppl as a race.....others might not like what i am saying but if they are honest with themselves they know it's true. It's just something about Soul Music that runs deeper then other muisc. I know that there are great songs in other cultures too,but the very best of all types is Soul Music. Let all the haters get over it because it is what it is.

  • love this song

  • This song makes me float back in time when life was fun and carefree... middle school. I was "in love" with Miguel and this was the song he dedicated to me! *tears* i wish life was still like it was back then!

  • @DaStr8Truth You ain't lyin', DaStr8! Was and remains the best music on earth. It moves your emotions and hits you dead in your heart and soul. No other music does this, it just doesn't.

  • @MusicManKevin That's right-people always confuse this

  • @DaStr8Truth I am black and don't take any offense to this. I am also from that era of music. There is no other like it.

  • Yes black music form from the misery of black people at that time and before was born from our misery from dealing with the violence that was forced on us everyday and the only escape was through our music...and boy what beautiful music...other blacks on this planet make beautiful music, but African American music was born not made

  • YOU KNOW HE TALKING ABOUT GOD? LISTEN TO THE WORDS

  • @DaStr8Truth I could awnser you that they where the first to introduce the most musical stuff, but check out marc moulin, david axelrod, wild cherry, steely dan. Dont see your statement as being racist, it shows you know that cultures are about identity, quality's. We are not equal, we are different, and should be appriciated and respected for the quality's each of us have. Merely pointing out that whites have soul too, and i'm sure there's a bunch of black singers that simply dont 'rock'. grtz

  • @lilkid1000, no not portuguese, Cape Verdean which is African!!!

  • @MusicManKevin really?
