These Shearwaters are very different. West coast: Sooty, Blue Footed Shearwaters, short wings, dynamic flyers, soarers. Not long wings, long beaks, a cousin of the Cormorant? West coast Shearwaters use the the wind when they fly. They use the valleys and peaks of the waves to dip into troughs and then over the peaks of the swells and wind. They are actually sailing, little flapping of the wings is needed. Allows them to travel for long distances on the ocean. The real sailors of the sea.
Here is a great example of evolution.
