I'm not sure it sounds like original NES hardware - it lacks a high-pass filter which should almost remove the lowest harmonics of the bass, and the low-pass filter cuts off almost an octave too early. Is it from a clone? If yes, in what year was this clone built? Clones usually have a different noise pattern, and newer ones might also have bugs in duty cycle control and/or digi output, i don't remember exactly.
Your ears are good. This was made using one of the generic Nes hybrid systems you can buy now.
Believe it or not, some Nes systems won't allow you to access this (musicruise) feature. I don't know why. Different models, definitely.
