Today at about 1:40 p.m. an Amtrak passenger train collided into the trailer of a big rig hauling tomatoes which was stopped on the track at the intersection of Geer Rd. road and Santa Fe Ave. just outside of Hughson, California.

Modesto News .org was the only news agency at the scene to bring you this footage of the aftermath and this written account of what happened.

Originally no injuries were reported but, after about an hour a few passengers of the train began to complain of back and chest pains and were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the big rig was unharmed and officials at the scene stated that he nor anyone one was would be facing any type of criminal charges or fines.

After about 2 hours the train continued down the tracks proceeding to the Modesto Amtrak Station to offload the remaining passengers and undergo repairs.

  • no salsa or pasta sauce or paste or burgers

  • what a waste :(

  • I hope the next train crash involves the Heinz ketchup truck.

  • wow hoped everyone turned out to be ok

  • *giggles*

  • Bloody train xD

  • It's a dangerous crossing which should be shut or grade-separated. There's not enough room for a vehicle to be clear of both the crossing and the intersection.

The Hospital Inn crossing on Brindle Road, Bamber Bridge has the same problem. At least that one has someone watching it on CCTV, so hopefully if there is a lorry or trailer on the crossing the train will be held until the vehicle is out and the crossing clear. Still dangerous, and ought to be grade-separated.

  • How will the ditchlights work?

  • The traind bleeding.

  • @TheLCDmesiah oh gawd. Seriously?
