St. James Infirmary in a blues mode played by the haunting clarinet of Pete Fountain. A relatively rare recording from the 1960's that is seldom heard. Caption words of the first stanza by Louis Armstrong.
This is the next Pete Fountain tune I hope to learn. Very dark and bluesy. Just love the phrasing and minor notes, leaps and slides. I could play this solo on the sidewalk and stop crowds. Thanks for the post.
I always loved that tune. I've never heard this recording before. It has kind of a beat-nick bar feel to it.

Very nice, powerful, thanks. If you're interested, there is a country version of the song called 'The Drunkard Blues' by Hank Thompson.
