NSF Atsugi military and civilian base resident's viewpoint of the Jinkanpo/Shinkampo incinerator's smoke blowing into their apartment on base. Why did the Navy build these apartments in the last 90's after they knew dioxin and other toxic chemicals were polluting the air. The Navy can not continue to ignore or cover up this issue.

  • I lived on Atsugi and worked there with VF-154 They did tell us it was Toxic, Everyone there in the NAVY was given Orientation while stationed at the base.

  • Hi

You must have lived there around 97 or after. Before that, they didn't tell anyone anything. VA/DOD hearing this week on this topic.

  • Yes

It is...... Although, the Navy started risk communication in 97, at least 9 years after they knew the area was being polluted. Do you think the Navy should have told the residents of the toxic dangers of the pollution?

  • I want this video on my M341i/M720 phone.

  • This video went viral on New Hampshire

  • Hi. My family and I were stationed at NAF Atsugi from 1987-1991, and we lived in the hi-rises across the street from Shirley Lanham Elementary School. I remember stinky air at times, but don't really remember clouds of smoke wafting towards us like in this video. Could we have been affected? I was 7, and my sister was 3 when Dad received orders to move to Japan. We lived there four years, but were in off-base housing for almost the whole first year. Please let me know.

  • if you don't like it, take your base somewhere else.

  • Is the pig farm still near that incinerator? I remember helping set up the air sampling devices back in the summer of '94. Those fumes along with the smell of pig excrement made me sick. Living on one of the high rises didn't help either. To this day I still remember the smell.

  • I used to live there. After me and my family came back to the states, my asthma pretty much went away.

  • wow that's a lot of pollution!
