Wise Latina Says "No Sotomayor" 7/16/09

Much has been said about how offensive it is for a bunch of white men to be questioning Latina Judge Sotomayor on her fitness for SCOTUS. Discarded to the dustbin of history is the fact that within only three months in office as President, G. W. Bush nominated Miguel Estrada to the DC Circuit US Court of Appeals, which was a well-known stepping stone to the Supreme Court. Had it not been for the Democrat party's fillibustering of this US Circuit Court of Appeals judicial nominee (a dramatically
embarrassing first for ANY Congress in the history of the USA) after 28 months of being locked in a Democrat-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee, this man who was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, would have been nominated for the US Supreme Court. Let there be no doubt that Democrats in the Senate were too worried about President Bush achieving an historic first for Latinos with the Estrada nomination to allow for this minority to succeed in America. After all of the ballyhoo and self-congratulatory glee by the Democrats has fizzled, remember this wise Latina, Linda Chavez, who spoke in calm, reasoned terms about why Judge Sotomayor was not qualified for appointment to SCOTUS. Indeed, no white man ever spoke this way about a female, much less a Latina, in the entire Judiciary Senate Committe hearing. But to hysterical, hate-filled witches like Maureen Dowd, who said: "A wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not know that a gaggle of white Republican men afraid of extinction are out to trip her up."
