ALUMINIUM INDUSTRY - THE FOREST TURNS TO DUST

The bauxite exploitation and its transformation in the industrial minerals alumina and aluminium is an extreme case of what researchers denominate Enclave Economy.

A system that concentrates wealth, that guarantees its expansion by installing itself unexpectedly in a region, keeping segregated from the geographic context and forma the rest of the economy that surrounds it.

Isolation is what guarantees maximum profit from the natural resources for the progress of business.

An invasion that amazonian people are being obliged to undergo in benefit of the development of others.

The Friends of The Earth Brazil nucleus, in contact with organizations and local movements, set to record these conflicts with ribeirinho communities to evaluate the social and environmental impacts that the aluminium industry provokes since the 1980s in Brazil.

Technical visits were organized in at least one place of every stage of the production chain.

This report a follows a Field research that reveals cases of threats to the traditional pelope and the workers of the industry, giving voice to the affected.
