No, he's not weaker. In fact, the combat in Ascension is the most varied one, and the best. That is, IF it was like in this E3 2012 demo. The rage meter worked differently, you could grapple pull towards all enemies, better and more effects, more and cooler sounds... the combat looked perfect in this demo. The final game is... nothing like that. It fails to deliver the spirit that this demo had. The demo looked perfect. Absolutely perfect. The final game has many flaws (still awesome though).

E3 demo had:

-grapple pull (just pressing R1 on an enemy OTHER than a standard enemy pulled you towards the enemy)

-fire magic looked way cooler

-rage meter worked completely different and better (rewarded perfect evades for example, affected specials, rage attacks...)

-much more fluid combat

-better effects (fire magic looks better), blades look slightly better, POP had fire effect

-better sound effects (triangle move sounded like a whip, AWESOME)
