I wouldn't say so. It is always advisable to have the latest security updates. Service Packs also address functionality issues besides security ones.

@CrayonPetals MCaffee is shit. I got a **STOP: 0x00000024 message from a wrong update. A hell lot of users had trouble with that update, putting SVChost.exe in the quarantine >_>

Get Avira. It's free and it doesn't leave traces from all it's files in the whole computer.

LOL on Dec. 2009 my pc was going on a endless loop and i had all the up to date windows updates and sec. updates for Kaspersky internet sec. 2010 and so, i had to do a sytem restore XD and there was no virus XD

its the shared task entry that's dropped by tht trojan which tries to run on startup. It is supposed to drop a dll which gves 'system has detected.." but instead the dll restarts it
