The most popular posts on this blog, both in terms of

hits and comments, is AutoCAD 2009 - Putting things

back to "normal". This was followed by the AutoCAD

2010 - Putting things back to "normal", with AutoCAD

2011 - Putting things back to "normal" is not too far

behind. Because it seems that many people find this

post useful, here's the latest version to the latest

release. Much of this post is based on the old

version, but there are many additions and differences

in this year's post-"continued from page I".

One thing that is regularly asked each time a new

release of AutoCAD hits the streets is how to make it

work like the previous releases. As I mentioned in my

original post, I think you should give the new

features a fighting chance before turning them off or

ignore them. But that's entirely your choice. We

should be grateful that at least AutoCAD 2012

(Autodesk products such as some), you still have that

option. At least, you have a choice in most cases.

Let's assume you've made the decision to place your

environment back into AutoCAD 2008 or earlier, how do

you do? I've arranged the items in alphabetical order: Aerial View. DSVIEWER command seems to be gone,

but it's just hiding. Has been defined. You can use

redefine DSVIEWER to revive, or simply enter DSVIEWER

(with leading period) .. It might not work perfectly

on all systems in all circumstances. Array dialog box. Excellent array of new features

of AutoCAD 2012 Associative has come at the cost of

the Array dialog box. Although you can use the Ribbon

or the Properties palette to modify the array, if you

want to make one, you have to go back to the future

with Release 14-style user interface. Using Array-does

not give you a dialog box, only the old-style command

line. Nothing is available in AutoCAD 2012 to provide

a standard interface dialog box, which is why I make

ClassicArray ™. It also makes it easier to make non-

associative array, if that's what you want. Plug-ins

have a more fortunate side effect of acting as a

solution for a variety of bugs some new Array command,

the limitations and design issues. Edit: Applying SP1 for AutoCAD 2012 add

ARRAYCLASSIC command that returns the previous dialog

box. It does not provide access to all the new

features, you still need ClassicArray for it. Autocomplete. Old-timers may find this feature

useful, but if you get in your way, turn it off is as

simple as AutoComplete OFF. There are various settings

you can selectively turn off individually if you wish. Blip. BLIPMODE command has been defined, but you

can use to redefine BLIPMODE to revive, or simply

enter BLIPMODE (with leading period) .. Classic command. If you choose not to leave many

new palette on the screen all the time, old versions

of the various commands are still available:

ClassicLayer, ClassicXref and ClassicImage. (Autodesk

obsolete command in 2011, and 2012 which I think is a

very bad idea). There is also variable LAYERDLGMODE

system, which when set to 0 will make the job Layer

command in the way (and faster) the old capital. If

you use this setting, you can still access the palette

a new layer with LayerPalette modeless command. Going

back further, there is a command line using the

command:-Layer,-Xref, XAttach, and ImageAttach-Fig.

For 2012, Autodesk has removed the dialog box

interface command group. If you want the dialog box,

you now need to use the command ClassicGroup instead. Crosshairs. Want 100% viewfinder? A lot of people.

As before, use the command Options Display tab and

look towards the bottom right, or use the system

variable CURSORSIZE. Dashboard. AutoCAD 2007 / 8 Dashboard missing, but

you can have a vertical ribbon instead. If the ribbon

is not visible (it will not if you only choose the

AutoCAD Classic workspace), enter the Ribbon to bring

it back. In the title bar tab (the bar with the word

Home in it), right click and select undock. Now you

can place and size of the Dashboard-like things you

see fit.
