Cindy Sheehan #1 at Socialism 2010 - Socialist Party video

Part one. US anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan spoke at Socialism 2010, hosted by the Socialist Party in November, as someone who "became a political campaigner in the belly of the beast".

Cindy explains that in the US there are two parties for the rich and none for the "working and looking-for-work-ing class". She describes her political journey from blaming George Bush, "a boil on the ass of humanity" to blaming what she calls the "cystem".

Cindy Sheehan is funny and courageous. She describes her rise to worldwide popularity as being down to George Bush's increasing unpopularity.

But when she stood against the Democrats in California her adoring media wouldn't touch her. It was a stressful experience but she came second with 50,000 votes.

Cindy is now considering standing for president on a left-wing, socialist programme to provide working class people with a voice to speak out against the onslaught.

If only more Americans would wake up as she did. She not only opposed Bush, but also the Democrats and became involved with socialism. For many people in America, that is poison. To oppose the Republicans is one thing, but to oppose also the Democrats and to fight for socialism is considered anti-American by the FOX NEWS right wing establishment.

Cindy Sheedan is a working-class hero. A woman who stood up and did not believed the lies of both the Republicans and the Democrats.

Two things: I think more and more people in the US are waking up. After the spectacular growth of US capitalism in the past, although at a vast expense, for a long while a lot of workers were bound to hope things would pick up.

US Wages have been falling for decades and workers are angry

But also, workers urgently need people like Cindy to stand up and show the way forward: To build a fighting union leadership and to build a new mass workers party. Google Socialist Alternative CWI

You are surely right to wish the US had more Cindy Sheehans. Sadly the deaths of USA servicemen and women is precisely supplying them by the thousand.

AS yet there's no party based on ordinary working class US citizens to pull all those angry people together. Hopefully Cindy, toegther with Socialist Alternative, our sister party in the USA, will do this.
