We took a trip to Orlando Florida on Amtrak's Silver Meteor. We departed at 3:15pm on Thursday, November 19th and arrive at 1pm on Friday, November 20th. We initially had coach class, but upgraded to a Viewliner Roomette after Richmond, VA for a real steep discount.

  • I have a couple of questions. How do seating assignments go for the sleeping cars? - And can you lock the door to your bedroom so no one can go in and steal anything?

  • @pilotofa737 You are assigned a roomette/bedroom upon making reservations for the train. You cannot lock your door from the outside. However, the sleeping cars are usually at one end of the train, and the car attendants do a good job keeping passengers that don't belong in there out.

  • thanks alot man. it really helps. I bet when you guys slept in that room it rocked you to sleep instantly. What do you mean by "vhf radio?"

  • @trainguy2020 Oh yeah, it definitely rocked you to sleep instantly. VHF is the band that the train radios operate on.

  • is that On-track scanner thing a websight? because if it is, it will be simple enough. What type of antenna do you use? is it a long antenna or is it a small one?

  • @trainguy2020 Yes, it's a website. For some reason Youtube won't let me link to the website in the comments, Google On-Track Online and you'll find it. It's a longer antenna cut for VHF radio.

  • @1970listowel thats why i love the fact my dad works for amtrak, i can ride free with my pass, and get the sleeper. We dont have "roomettes" here.

  • I'm going to be traveling for the first time to Miami this Sunday, and I was wondering what to expect to see along the way. Thanks to your video, now I know.

  • How do you get the thing you had on your laptop in the video?

  • @1970listowel I used Amtrak Guest Rewards Points for the roomette
