After General Electric released tons of toxic PCBs into the Housatonic River from 1932 to 1977, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency classified the river as a Superfund site, forcing GE to clean up its mess. With the river now designated as a state Area of Critical Environmental Concern, the Commonwealth may be able to speak up on a federally directed cleanup.
