Review of my Polish P-64 Radom manufactored (9x18mm Makarov)

This pistol has a 6 round magazine 6+1 capacity
(Aviod after market mags they have feeding issues Stick with factory radom mags)

A good factory round for defensive use with this pistol is Hornady XTP 95gr. JHP 9x18mm ( Makarov )

However I choose to handload most of my pistol ammo...

I used converted 9x19mm nickel plated brass, that was trimmed to 9x18mm using a method I learned from youtube user ammosmith

He posted the conversion as a video response.
( Thanks ammosmith )

Wolff springs are available at this site:

  • Dietzeeee......Where and how hard is it to find factory shells for this. What caliber off of the shelf works with this weapon. I do not reload. Also could this be considered a pocket pistol for Levi's. Do you recommend any smaller pistols for carry. Thanks... great informative video!

  • @HaightandAshbury online you can find ammo. brass cased FMJ ammo i good. I like hornady XTP ammo for defense. I avoid steel cased ammo it tends to be loaded a little bit hotter. I would stick with the factory hammer spring as it is also the magazine catch spring. I have had magazines eject on me when shooting with a reduced power hammer spring. I would avoid silver bear ammo or any bear ammo for that fact. It tends to be inconstant in velocities and sometimes under loaded.

  • @HaightandAshbury I am not a fan of pocket carry. You can find good quality inside the waistband holsters from a guy on the P-64 forums. I would carry the biggest pistol you feel comfortable carrying. If that means it is a 22 then its a 22 if its a 45 then its a 45. I can not tell you what is going to work best for you in a choice for CCW thats something you have to find out on your own. The p64 is my summer carry gun. I now carry a 45 since its concealed under winter clothing

  • @Dietzeeeee Hello, and thank you. I have a full frame military issue 1911 45 which I find great but heavy. I also have the "very Nice" Lady Smith 9mm, which is a great carry weapon. I thought the P 64 might be smaller and lighter than my 9mm. I enjoy your video, very well done..Thank you.

  • @HaightandAshbury No problem. For summer carry when sandals shorts and a T-shirt are the norm. This pistol is great. People notice my I-phone pouch under my shirt before they notice my P-64. Very good choice for deep concealment however as always its a trade off as you are left with a weaker cartridge and less fire power.

  • Why does everybody call it a "Beretta 92FS-style safety"? It is a Walther P38-style safety.

  • @Keichwoud357 good point... I think its engineered slightly differently but it would not suprise me at all if that is where they got the idea for that style safety.

  • I'd imagine this could be a great backup pistol or MAYBE if you're on a really low budget, but that might be pushing it for stopping power. I think this might be the first pistol I buy simply because of it being so cheap. Cheap ammo is nice too :)

  • Nicely done vid, very well articulated comments. Straight to the point.

  • CZ-82 is still better then both P64 and Makarov for magazine capacity, magazine detach, build quality, SAAMI pressure cap, smoother trigger pull, and ambidextrous grips.

...but the P64 is a good gun for the money.

  • @HaightandAshbury This has become a popular round, thanks to the Makarov and CZ-82. Ammo is at almost every gun store or pawn shop I've seen.

  • I'm going to start a accessories and ammo company called "Woof", because he's already given them some great free publicity! ;o)
