  • I find no dilemma at all. Simply quirky observations and pseudo nostalgia of the aural variety.

  • I concur.

  • I wouldn't say i have the same problem... because i dont see it as a problem. lol but i seem to be doing the same thing

  • sounds like some pretty nifty shit. mikey rocks.

  • It sounds like... organized chaos... don't know how else to put it. I love it.

  • Well you're a master debater and I of course, am a cunning linguist.

    =)

  • indeed sir, indeed. Thanks for the playful debate my friend. It's been fun

  • Ah I see where our discrepancy lies. You're right about the technical usage of the words in question as far as I can tell. The problem stemmed from my colloquial use of the word classical to describe this orchestral piece.

  • contemporary and classical are not interchangeable...in fact they are complete opposites. :)

  • though some portions may be reminiscent of classical, other sections of it are more impressionistic. Obviously i do not have the score in front of me, and i only have relative pitch so i can't tell you exactly in which places the rules for classical music are broken. But i have listened to enough of it to know that this isn't it. It is really a culmination of styles. so it is much simpler to just call it contemporary and leave it at that.

  • i think when you say classical, you are referring to the fact that it is orchestral. classical music has rules like no parallel thirds, fifths, octaves etc.. certain types of passing tones are also prohibited. there are a load of other stylistic factors that contribute to making a piece classical. If this was in the classical style then technically it would be categorized as a contemporary neoclassical piece.

  • Incubus released a nu-metal album called S.C.I.E.N.C.E in 1997, when I first heard their style. Though they have shifted away from nu-metal, I was referring to their classification as of then. Classical and contemporary are interchangeable terms. The full term would be contemporary classical music.

  • Indubitably.
