Available for purchase at http://www.acornonline.com ! Detective Inspector Purbright (Anton Rodgers, Lillie, May to December) pursues the evildoers of Flaxborough - a quiet country town with a darker world of deception, intrigue, treachery, and infidelity. These forces can upset the harmony of the most staid of small communities and ignite passions that erupt into violence. From the DVD, "Murder Most English."
I see Christopher Timothy in this clip and that aggressive bald-headed guy from On The Buses.

Just discovered this author last year. Amongst other things, his novels are very much a response to Agatha Christie's portrayal of the archetypal English village; instead of one bad egg, the whole village are cynical self-seekers. Very interesting and probably more than a touch of truth in it, but I can see why the Christie vision is much more popular.

I remember this series with some fondness, and am delighted to see it available on DVD. Colin Watson must be the most underrated crime writer of the 20th Century.
