Detective Inspector Purbright (Anton Rodgers, Lillie, May to December) pursues the evildoers of Flaxborough - a quiet country town with a darker world of deception, intrigue, treachery, and infidelity. • I see Christopher Timothy in this clip and that aggressive bald-headed guy from On The Buses.

  • Criminal overacting ! XD

  • Just discovered this author last year. Amongst other things, his novels are very much a response to Agatha Christie's portrayal of the archetypal English village; instead of one bad egg, the whole village are cynical self-seekers. Very interesting and probably more than a touch of truth in it, but I can see why the Christie vision is much more popular.

  • I remember this series with some fondness, and am delighted to see it available on DVD. Colin Watson must be the most underrated crime writer of the 20th Century.
