I couldn't run it to long because it's water cooled.
I'm a 4 stroke guy, but I have to add mitt this engine sounds very good.
It's a 2 cylinder, 2 stroke, made in the 80s by Johnson

  • Hey another water pump bites the dust! Morons like this are 1/2 the reason why us outboard dealers stay in business (LOL) I'll guarantee that Water pump was toast after that

  • @plm947 First of all: don't call me a moron, it's just so childish! and second: NO, the water pump still works, 2 years after, engine is sold, and they are very pleased with it! I know the water pump can often get bad after¨doing this, but I didn't have a big enough bucket of water, and I had to test the engine, if it broke I would just have changed it, it's pretty easy, and the parts are cheap!

  • cool sounding engine! what is the mixing ratio?

I do like a 4 stroke, but 2 cylinder/2 strokes have always caught my attention.

  • I don't know the mixing ratio for this engine, but I use 2-3% on all of my 2 stroke engines, and I haven't seized one yet!

  • you really shud never run one of thoes for more than 10 seconds or the seal for your water pump disintegrates. i had one of thoes and just running it no water for a few seconds and when i had it on the boat the water pump sprayed out water from the seal and the engine overheated. same with 4 strokes too.

but that is prolly the nicest sounding motor ive seen. usually when i start thoes up with flushers they sound real strange and pop alot no mater how i set the carb.

  • Oh, I thought they could run a little longer, because it didn't feel very warm after this, but now I know. I will try to put it in some bucket filled with water next time. But then the exhaust wont sound so good. Thanks for the information!

  • its bad to run your outboard motor when its not in water.

  • @kiarra00 Ya whatever in my line of work your still a moron or maybe I should tone that down to just an ignorant fool (LOL) P.S There's no way that pump was just fine after that

  • lookin at the vid i bet it wouldnt harm much for a minute anyways

  • sounds great but i wouldn't run it that long outa water

  • nah, my engine has ran outa water for about 20 seconds and works fine.

  • Thats what I was thinking with the seal part.

  • Dude that waterpump is now toast!!!

It only takes a few seconds for the rubber impeller to melt when running out of water like that.

By the way that looks like a 1963 5 1/2. I has the same motor as a kid and it was the best running motor I have had

  • that is very common because the ignition timing is off at low speed, that's how they slow 'em down.
