Adapted from Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis Trilogy, Lilith (Ella Thomas) wakes up in a world not her own. Startled by Jdahya (Camden Toy), an Oankali Alien, Lilith demands Jdahya tell her everything he knows.

This scene is taken for the opening of Butler's "Dawn."

  • Very interesting. Has someone adapated one of her novels into a play. Is there more?

  • Her books are all very awesome. To my knowledge she didn't want them turned into movies at least. I've not heard of any of them as plays anywhere. When I googled it, I found nothing.

  • Where did you get this clip? Is it a scene from a television movie?

  • Project I directed for film school.

  • great acting. i wish Octavia's books could be turned into feature-lenght films.

  • OMG! I am sooo excited to find something like this!! I read almost every one of Octavia's books and I am so mad I just got hip to her last year. She's an awsome author! I wish the alien costume would have been done better too! But the acting is done well. Those of you looking for a different type of author there is Tananrive Due. She has some pretty good books as well. She is a Black horror author. We gotta support our black authors.

  • i would not mine turing into a feature

  • oh how I miss Octavia Butler. Such a loss.

  • Wow this was awesome! I just finished reading Dawn and loved it. That was a great actor who played Lilith. If you decide to do another scene, please let me play Joseph ;)

  • This is very nicely staged -- nice work with minimal resources. And Ella Thomas makes a great Lilith!

  • Hollywood hasn't run out of good ideas, they just have forgotten where to look.

  • what an exciting find! i love Butler's books. Your efforts are awesome.

  • They had mouths. And Jdahya had patches of cnidocytes growing where a human would have eyes and hair—creating the illusion of both—because he was "designed" for first contact.

  • and oankali didn't have a face.. it was covered by tentacles

  • Excellent work! I did a media package of the Patternist series for my Producing class in film school 7 years ago when I first got hip to her. Her work is truly inspiring.

Loved the lighting and direction. Great acting especially for student progject! Keep it up. Fanvids are the highest form of flattery even if the late great Octavia Butler wasn't too keen on the whole moving picture business. :)
