@allpeeps4me You have a point...but clearly soccer (football) is still more tribal than US sports fans...
Most US sports fans follow their team for entertainment and stats and Football (Soccer) fans mostly follow because their team represents who they are it is very different...
union1975- Only the NFL is like a big business.. College football teams have history starting around 1860-1905 just like soccer.. Each team has unique names and colors with history.. Because it's a large college they have a large student attendance at each game about 10-35 thousand called "student sections".. The students know all the chants and songs and are similar to ultras in that they are young, drunk and rowdy.. Large riots happen, thousands travel to away matches..
Lejos, el Fútbol (football no soccer) es mucho mejor, porque mientras ese jueguito gringo lo juegan con las manos, el de nosotros, lo jugamos con el corazón (dejemos de decir "soccer" para que nos entiendan los gringos)
@PhoenixTomislav You and I know that is not true...The US has the largest economy and military today but 300+ million people is not the whole planet...The World Cup of Football (Soccer) is a true world championship...
200+ nations compete until one is left...hence World Champion...
Spain is the current World Champion won in 2010 in South Africa...they have defended that title several times around the world...
When do US teams defend their "World Title"...never...or until the next season begins.
Football (Soccer) teams have a more grass roots beginning than US sports teams. Google any football (soccer) team in the world and read their history from how it began from the people...the name, colors, nicknames, songs, chants, etc...it comes from the ground up.
Google Arsenal, Manchester Utd., AC Milan, Juventus, Inter, Real Madrid, Barcelona, River Plate, Boca Jrs., Palmeiras, Vasco da Gama, etc...
US teams are created from big business and name, colors, nicknames are created by a few...
