Continuing my Heat and Light series, we go pretty basic and cover how to create home made water proof fire starters out of dryer lint, cotton balls, cardboard egg carts and paraffin wax.

  • Good video! I've never seen the egg carton method, but as a boyscout I used to make something very similar except it was "self" igniting. Maybe I'll make a video on it one of these days. I definately like the cartons though! I'll have to give that a try.

  • @Defiant14 Glad you enjoyed it! I wasn't sure about posting vids on stuff I consider very basic. I would love to see your self igniting video - that sounds really cool.

  • That is a cool way of doing it, not as messy as others (as long as you have the cardboard under your forms.....LOL) that I've seen. Thanks for sharing. Take Care :-))

  • @SurviveN2 My wife really hates it when I make a mess of things doing prep stuff :) Well, let's be honest - she hates it when I don't clean up after myself very well! I guess that makes makes me put more thought into how easy it'll be to clean up :)

  • These work good as you say.I been using to start my green house rocket stove. One sugestion on melting, make a bucket bail out of twisted rebar wire.Oh,and bend a old tablespoon 90 degrees to make a laddle.Don`t use wifes good spoon tho.LOL.See ya.

  • @awebreeze1 Anyway, the candle wax is better!

  • @awebreeze1 Yes mate, you can it's petroleum jelly basically it burns just as good, it's just more expensive.

  • How many bars of wax are needed to occupy a 12 quantity egg carton? Also an 18 quantity egg carton?

  • It would be good to note that you can also use the wax from the now very popular Scentsy after it's all out of the smell and most people probably would just throw it away. You know, in stead of spending extra money since almost everything else is recycled.

  • your daughter was sat too close to that pan of hot water mate.i work with someone who tipped a pan over himself when he was small.his shoulder looks like the surface of the moon.

  • can you use vaseline instead of wax?

  • thanks for the video. im trying to become more outdoorsy and this really helped thanks man

  • nice work

  • Forget the lint and cotton balls. Got to your local home improvement store and pick up an inexpensive roll of Jute twine. Coil it up inside the egg compartment before pouring the wax.. It burns long and as well as the other options and gives you the additional option of useing it as an actual candle. Although more expensive, I prefer bees wax.. Another alternative is char cloth and wax.
