Immediately after the flood, the Town of High River and MD of Foothills #31 had personnel working on collecting data and updating the river model the partners presented to the public in spring of 2013. This model, that the partners developed in conjunction with its consultant, WorleyParsons Canada, the Highwood River Advisory Committee and with the cooperation of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, is the first step in a comprehensive plan (referred to as the Flood Management Master Plan, or FMMP) for the protection of the Town and portions of the MD.
The attached video is a representation of a flood event completed by WorleyParsons, which is a preliminary approximation of the 2013 event. Its purpose is to assist with design of flood mitigation currently underway and into the future.
It is a computer generated model only and cannot be construed as actually representing exactly what occurred. It is a tool to be used as part of understanding what happened to the Highwood River for planning and engineering purposes only. The model is a two-dimensional model, which takes into account the current landscape of the Town/MD and takes advantage of the latest computer technology and modeling software.
