Robert Owen "Bob" Melvin a man afflicted with neurofibromatosis. Read more of NF HERE http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/neurofibromatosis/neurofibromatosis.htm.

Bob is the first person I ever heard utter the word Neurofibromatosis. Just weeks later I would hear the that same word when I was getting my physical for the NAVY.
Read about that here http://www.sideshowworld.com/tgodNLump&Bumps.html
Looking back. I feel privileged to have met him.

He started working Coney Island in 1949 and also toured with Sideshows till the mid 1980's. Bob even became a Star Attraction at times earning more than a thousand dollars a week. Read more on Mr. Melvin here http://www.phreeque.com/robert_milwin.htm

Some of the information in this video is outdated and or in correct. Joseph Carrey Merrick (John wasn't his real name) was found to have another medical disorder called Proteus Syndrome. Some do believe He may have had a combination of both Neurofibromatosis and Proteus Syndrome http://www.proteus-syndrome.org/ .

You can learn more about NF here http://www.nfinc.org and http://www.ctf.org

Segmental NF is one of the uncommon subtypes of NF.http://www.jpad.org.pk/april%20-%20june%20%202006/9segmenta%20neurofibromatosis.pdf
We report a young adult presenting with asymptomatic skin lesions- neurofibromas and café-au-lait macules- over localized areas of the lower back, affecting more than one segment. None of the family members were found to have features of segmental NF. Segmental NF may be misdiagnosed as a birthmark or remain undiagnosed for long periods of time, as the patients are often asymptomatic. Moreover, the clinical features are highly variable and range from a small area of skin involvement to involvement over the entire half of the body

  • STUPID ANIMAL ABUSER!!

  • @JoLeana76 He toured again in the early 80's. That's when I met him. It was the first time I heard the word Neurofibromatosis (NF for short). A couple of monthes later I was diagnosed with NF. I'm affected with tumors allover my body. You can either get NF by inherting it or a spontanious mutation (sometimes sh*t just happens). Bob had a type of NF called Segmental NF. It only affects one part of the body. In his case it was just half of his face.

  • I have this documentary. They never mentioned about him being in the traveling carnivals and sideshows where he exhibited himself as "The Man With 2 Faces". He didn't live in that town for a few years with the sideshow. I think he only did it for 10 years and then came back to Lancaster.
