  • Our daughter, now 16 months, was dx when she was 8 months. Our specialist recommended a pump and told us to research the web and even look at videos. This was the first video we saw and it scares me to death. But then I realized that CGM is something else. This is different from the actual pump, right?

  • @tconner1016 I'm so sorry that your daughter was diagnosed too at such a young age. Yes, the Continuous Glucose Monitor is separate from the pump and is definitely optional. We started her pump at 16 months old and it improved her glucose control tremendously! Then we added the CGM a few months later and, again, got even better glucose control and incredible peace-of-mind. Please don't be scared of my video! FYI, we now do the CGM on her arm while she's awake which is much easier.

  • You are such amazing parents! There are so many parents that would have trouble doing this... me, included and I am a diabetic! So impressed that you covered her with a rag, too, protecting her modesty. Again, some parents would not think about doing that.

  • @tashainjena Thanks! Her little arms finally have enough fat on them now to put the sensor on the back of her arms. I'm so glad to have it out of the diaper. It took a while, but my husband and I finally have our system down. Changing the sensor, though, is still the part I dread the most about Lucy's diabetes management. I cringe and hold my breath every time.

  • We are just about to start a trial with enlight - hoping our 3 yr old boy will accept another needle - it's still not fully funded so we will have to wait and see

  • @adamgorgeous I'm not familiar with enlight. I'm assuming it's a Continuous Glucose Monitor or is it a pump?? I hope it goes well for you! Having the CGM information has totally transformed Lucy's blood glucose management. Her A1C gets better every 3 months. Her last one was 7...which absolutely thrilled me considering where we were at diagnosis.

  • @omofmom Thank you! Lucy is an amazing little girl and has handled everything so well. She was diagnosed at 13 months, so this will just be normal life for her. I was very overwhelmed for a very long time, but here we are one year after diagnosis things are so much better. What a crazy year!! Thanks for commenting and good luck to you and your son!

  • @SME3333 I'm all for smaller needles! :) This is the one thing in her diabetes care that I still can't bring myself to do. So thankful for my husband.
