  • this bassline could save the world

  • @vampyros1 - Ah yes...nice music on that one as well...

  • @MikeNichols50 True, the reverberations of 'Shaft' were ubiquitous. I recently picked up 'On Any Sunday' ... great stuff. Maybe no "hit" song for Dominic, but an impressive track record nonetheless. Happy listening--

  • The music Frontiere composed here owes a big debt to the Issac Hayes sound of the movie "Shaft"...and although his true musical identity showed originality, he was also a business-oriented person and probably saw that the tide of musical style was changing as the 1960's turned into the 1970's, with the sounds of R&B and disco moving more to the center stage of public taste...

His interviews appearing in the "Fugitive" DVD set would support the idea that he recognized the "business" aspect...

  • @vampyros1 - Interesting point...the success of the movie [and, obviously, Issac Hayes' music in] "Shaft" pretty much radically changed the way Hollywood soundtrack composers approached their music.

I love the music of Dominic Frontiere, especially his 1960's style, and...if you examine the complete body of his work it seems to me that he always wanted that "commercial hit"...that one "hit" song that would have been identifiable with his name...but I don't think that ever happened for him...

  • Tight!!!

  • @l4597 I couldn't agree more; well put-

  • Isaac should have gotten royalties from everyone who so blatantly ripped him off for the following 7 or 8 yrs.-

  • If you're anything like me, you can be an asshole with great musical taste who's not afraid of commenting. An asshole that tastes, sounds kind of fucked up though. Like that story in Burroughs' novel "Naked Lunch."

  • @l4597 Please, will you avoid calling me an asshole if I manifest myself as a man of musical taste, that is, just like you? :)
