Demolition of Sheffields Tinsley Cooling Towers

This is the demolition of the twin cooling towers in Sheffield at 3am on Sunday, 24th August 2008. This was a sad day for many people in Sheffield. 70 years of history have collapsed. It was also quite a dangerous demolition as the towers are literly feet away from the M1, one of the UK's busiest Motorways. :-(

if you dont agree with what hapened to the cooling towers dont get your gas and electricity supplied by e-on it was them who did this cruel thing

we dont have a land mark now how are people supposed to know where they are in sheffield

the cooling towers will be missed

I completely agree. They should never have been demolished. They used to welcome you home or see you off as you passed them on the M1. And as far as I'm aware, there's nowhere else in the world where two towers of that size where so close to a main highway.

Good view. These were supposed to be our landmark? It's only a couple of towers and they weren't doing anything so why not knock them down. They can build a nice new landmark that's shiney.
