  • @kthoma22 Also add natural disasters and economic crises to that? In that case, when would we really have a balanced budget. How would they be defined to prevent politicians from manipulating minor problems to bypass this rule? Anyway, I don't see how this would require full support from Congress for war. Explain that please. Most citizens are angry about our wars and possible war with Iran, but the government isn't following what her people want anymore, it follows the money.

  • @Eim30 The amendment would have specified that during a time of war the budget does not have to be balanced. More importantly such a law would prevent us from going to war in a place such as Iraq without the full support of congress to declare war. At the very least if we do send troops overseas it would require us to raise taxes and make citizens more critical of sending our troops somewhere.

  • And how would you pay for a war or natural disaster with a constitutionally required balanced budget. This is an illogical and unreasonable plan. We need to decrease the debt, but we must be reasonable in the means of doing that.
