This model was built at the initiative of Hans Kroch, owner of the Holyland Hotel, in memory of his son Jacob, who fell in Israel's War of Independence. The model was produced under the direction of Prof. Avi-Yonah of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The reconstruction was based on three main sources of information: literary works, especially the books of Josephus, the Mishnah and Talmud, and the Gospels; ancient cities similar to Jerusalem; and archaeological discoveries in Jerusalem itself.

The model is on a scale of 1:50

  • Great work on the reconstruction model!!!

  • Who ever would ever know, that after 2000 years of wanderings Jews came back tom their homestead..Because of all our sacrifices, we have survived we survived the Greeks the romans, the Spanish inquisitions the Russian tsars, and the European concentration camps. We have a much greater cause and attachment to our land Israel, than any one should ever know. God bless Israel, and thanks to all our peaceful Jewish friends to be united in one cause. Am Israel Chai

  • herods temple...in the wrong spot like all the rest.

  • @ShowYourWorking if you ask about the model, I don't know exactly but it stood at the Holyland hotel for many years and it has been at its current location at the Museum of Israel at least since 2006.

  • Yeh, Herod's Temple. THe Talmud adores it all, because the Jerusalem priests, Herod and the Romans were in cahoots toegther, to hold power, and wealthy.

All three, esp. Herod, werehated virulentlyby the Judeans for:

-Herod was a foreigner AND appointed king by the Romans.

-Herod raised taxes to the nth, tfor the Temple-not only to rebuiltd, but to add, and the most costly material. AND his vacation palaces.

What was a temple worth in exchange for the suffering of the Judeans?

  • Thank you for taking the time to film and post. May The Temple be speedily built and in our time.

  • So was I but it was raining rockets and tanks at that time, still have my guidebook i bought and will visit when it has calm down alittle more.

  • It lacks trees because they would keep growing and ruin the model, I'm sure. Besides, the Romans uprooted most of the trees when they destroyed Jerusalem in 70 C.E.

  • sip, creo lo mismo
