Drivecam: April 2011 #3

1) Emergency truck running lights and sirens.

2) Driving my Jeep through a massive puddle, causing a few seconds of no visibility.

3) Impatient driver who had been tailgating the vehicle for a while tries to swerve around and almost sideswipes a car.

4) When a traffic light has failed, drivers must treat it as a stop sign. However, the opposing traffic is just flying through it.

5) Dump truck runs a red light almost hitting a pedestrian, then does it again a few lights later.

6) Driver on a cell phone doesn't notice the light changing (they later do it again and then run a red light).

7) Driver wants to cross 2 lanes through a line of cars, but doesn't use their turn signal which confuses other drivers.

8) SUV fails to yield to a school bus with flashing lights + stop sign. This is a 5-point traffic offense (same as going 30+ mph over the speed limit) and also a 60-day license suspension in Pennsylvania.

9) Jaywalking pedestrian almost struck by a van.

10) Van pulls out in front of me but doesn't speed up. Then later they run a red light.

11) SUV is in a hurry and speeds past a Mustang in a lane that eventually ends.

the second light the dumptruck "ran" he was actually in the intersection when it turned red..depending on what kind of stuff he was carrying it couldve been the safest option to roll through the light

i cant imagine what excitement you drivecam people get from this sort of thing..

@vettedude418 I realized that, after I uploaded, the second light was yellow when they entered the intersection, and therefore legal. I can't speak for other people who upload similar videos, but the reason I upload these is, partially, to vent some frustration caused by the drivers we see on the road. The videos help us relate with other drivers on the road with similar issues. Also, by analyzing these, it teaches me what to avoid doing so that I become a safer driver.

@NOVAdashcam Glad you like it. I see you have some neat compilations as well. After having some hardware problems with my laptop, I finally got it back from getting serviced under warranty, so I can do video processing again. Hopefully, I'll find time over the next week to process the 50 or so clips I have queued up.

@theXcenter I don't know all the numbers for all the local fire department trucks without going to the various websites. Can't say I have a favorite either, they're all pretty cool. I heard sirens today and listened to the police radio about a brush fire in the 5300 block of West Ridge. I didn't get a chance to go out and see what that was all about though.

@mlps93 Yes, you are correct. We are also required to move over and stop. However, what you can't see in the video is that a car was beside me. I decided that the safest thing to do would be to slow down and stay in my lane considering that the emergency vehicle had both their lane and the center turning lane for use and they appeared to want to go straight.

but in Canada, if there is no concrete median, both sides of traffic must move over for an emergency vehicle

@machsad1 I spent the summer away from home without a good internet connection. I have several videos queued for uploading, just waiting for a good connection. The first will be an emergency vehicle compilation. Might have some storm footage considering there is a storm heading our way right now with some tornado vortex signatures in it.
