Made two videos back to back because I had a lot to say today. I share my thoughts and feelings on the novel and this year's experience, and also talk a bit about what I did in today's chunk of novel, obviously. I'm really close to the end now. It's kind of scary.
I'll put the excerpt in this part, since part two mainly deals with my goals for completing the novel and what I'm going to do with it after it's done:
----
Everything crashed back into focus as Kristiana screamed with her strike, moonlight streaking down the blade and flashing in all directions. Cole stepped back and brought the sword across to knock hers away but she did not stop, swung again and again, and up close, dangerously near, she struck him harshly across the face with the back of her hand, snapping him to the side and clouding his vision with the force. His body stumbled as he turned involuntarily in response to the strike, a gasp catching in his throat before he unleashed a howl of pain as steel slashed up his back from hip to shoulder. His knees buckled and he hit the ground, burning alive from the inside out, agony eating away at every nerve, ever inch of his body on fire.
From behind came the rolling, arrogant laugh of Kristiana and he felt her step towards him, her shadow falling over his back, shrouding him in extra darkness. Down on his knees, Cole struggled to breathe, eyes begging to close as blood pulsed from the line carved up his back. Without even knowing it, Kristiana had laid open an old wound, the one that had almost claimed his life as a child. Knelt awkwardly on the grass, Cole felt his mind tumble back messily, taking him to Sebastian's grave and then further still, all the way back to his mother and father finding him in the woods, fighting weakly against the silver eating at him from within. From beneath the flames of his anguish rose something unexpected, something warm in another way; a determination and a drive that told him to rise, to fight on. He had not failed that day when that unknown enemy had left him for dead and he would not fail now. Could not fail now. Somewhere out there, his mother and father were battling to save their family, save the pack, and their blood flowed in his veins. He was their son, a fighter, a warrior through and through, just as his grandfather had been.
The shadow pressed closer, moonlight flickered from a metal blade, and that strength snapped into place, finding where it belonged in the core of his chest.
Cole drew in a breath that seared all the way down his throat to his lungs, but instead of withdrawing from that fire, he fed from it instead, sucked it in all the way and then turned and drove up with a guttural cry, rising and moving forward, slamming his body into Kristiana's. Her arm was drawn up and back, ready for the killing blow, but it never fell.
----
Cut that part off there, which might seem a little silly but that's a fat, fat paragraph and it would have ended up a huge excerpt. This is a big blurb as it is, so head on over to part two now please! HEARTS!
