Guiding Light - July 1982 - Quint & Nola in St. Croix

(this is the last St. Croix clip, story continues in Silas Kidnaps Nola (part 1)

In the Summer of 1982, Guiding Light, when they still spent money on the show, went on one of their popular "remotes" to St. Croix. These were the glory days of Douglas Marland, and they decided to bring their up and coming supercouple along for the fun . .angst ridden and mysterious Quinton or Mr.McCord as he was still mostly called at that time and the show's redeemed villainess and newly crowned young heroine, Nola Reardon were off on a quest of a lifetime to discover the golden temple and ultimately what the fans wanted most . ..romance. Quinton was an archaeologist who had spent the past ten years looking for a Phoenician barge that went down in the ocean and the golden temple they were searching for . Through deciphering ancient maps, Quint discovered that somehow the barge wound up in the Caribbean near a deserted island off St. Croix. As part of their growing closeness, Nola, who was always of a curious spirit, had started working with Mr. McCord as his archaeological assistant so it was only natural when it came time to trek off to St Croix that she should go along. The fans knew something amazing was going to happen. Also along for the trip was Gunther Lagosi who was Quint's good friend and colleague. Surely one could expect that one or both of the evil duo of Helena Manzini and Silas Crocker would show up to throw a monkey wrench into the plot, thus building the anticipation. Silas was charlatan and a modern day pirate. While Quint wanted to find these historical treasures to share with the world, Silas wanted them to pilfer and exploit for his own financial gain. And in an act of cruel betrayal, years earlier, Italian heiress Helena Manzini left her fiance Quinton for his evil nemesis.

But more important than anything. .when in the world would Quinton and Nola first kiss??!!! The fans were breathless for this moment when they could finally share a kiss without interruption. I'm looking at you Mrs. Renfield, Effie, Gracie and Gunther!!! No one would be disappointed with the big kiss we got in St.Croix . .a la "From Here to Eternity" style . . .but of course it always goes . .boy gets girl, boy loses girl. . .boy gets girl back . . .unfortunately for the Quint and Nola fans back in 1982 the times leading up to the "good stuff" were looooong . .but it was all well worth it.

  • Thanks for all the comments you two! Quint had his moods, huh. It's nice to know there was a happy ending :) I will continue uploading next weekend, so stay tuned for that.

  • @Thia912002 Quinton was a good man in many ways but he was *deeply* flawed. His life was needlessly complicated because he refused to deal with it and not just because of Silas Crocker. If I'd been involved with a guy like him my mother would have KILLED him for putting me in so much harm's way - getting kidnapped TWICE by a psycho! Who Quinton should have worked hard to put behind bars rather than letting him get away all the time. Nola should have fed him to Silas Crocker! (The spider ;)

  • @SomeOtherChick But shr didn't.She fought to keep the man she feel in love with, and with time and in time he saw the light and realized they werte soulmates.

  • Quinton was a TOTAL jerk. He should have ditched Helena at his earliest convenience, sent her back to St. Croix. He let her hang all over him, then buggered off with her. Later on that summer, he was forever letting Crocker get away, his own personal stalker who went after Nola too. Wouldn't call the police, and no one ever pushed him on that. If Nola had had any brains she would have ditched his ass.

  • Oh my God,how dare you guys say that.Quinton was never a THE "J" Word. Quinton in this story was angry at himself for losoing the Temple of Gold. He never blamed Nola, ever for what happened. Yes,he could be a bit moody,at times but he was never, ever a "J" word. Please find anotheer word. I love Quinton, but he was never ever that word.

  • I know jerk was not the right word. So moody and dark is right. It just makes me upset with him to have him say he is so sorrry he went beyond the professional. So glad that the storyline continues and he realizes how much he loves Nola.

  • It was definitely supposed to be that Quint was moody, dark and full of angst . .not so much that he was a jerk exactly. Being a jerk would be too everyday. Quint was more like Rochester from Jane Eyre or Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, gothic and full of angst over his mysterious past. This story would not play as well today.

  • Maureen and Ed are cute. Good for Mrs. Renfield, telling it like it is to Quint, and since Helena was eavesdropping at the end there, obviously Mrs. Renfield is right on about her. Quint was a jerk to Nola. Thank goodness he'll be making up for it soon. And Silas with that rope outside the Reardon house was just chilling. Thanks for this, and I look forward to seeing all that comes after it.

  • Thank you so much for this great storyline. It sure started out so beautifully with them finally kissing and Quint confessing his love. What an ending though. Quint could be such a jerk sometimes. Oh well, we all know that in another year they were happily married and a year after that they had there beautiful little boy. Keep up the fantastic work. I am anxious to see the second kidnapping. Silas Crocker was such a bad guy. Hard to believe he was the same guy that played Hal Munson.
