A puck floats nearly frictionlessly on an air table. It is attached by a string to a post at the center of the table. The string is wound several times around the post. When it unwinds far enough, a pin which holds a loop of the string releases it. The motion of the puck continues in a direction tangent to the circle. When the force of the string stops acting on the puck, it continues moving in the direction that it was going last.
An object in motion will stay in motion unless an external force acts on it.
