@Mirokukeiiswatching Canadians refer to American English as American because it vastly differs in pronunciation and other factors such as slang from Canadian English or British English. If you were to go through and Canadian English dictionary and an American English Dictionary, there would be some words that are either ommitted or added in both dictionarys. There are not a huge amount of differences between the two english dialects but they are there. Hope this helps :)
