Hilary Mason is Chief Scientist at bit.ly, co-founder of HackNY, and a member of hacker collective NYC Resistor. She says she "has discovered two new species, loves to bake cookies, and asks way too many questions".

http://bit.ly has grown from a lovable URL shortener to an analytics platform spanning the social web and beyond. They build systems that understand - in realtime - what the world is paying attention to, at scale. This requires a blend of machine learning, infrastructure, and coordination. On February 7th, 2012, Hilary came to Dropbox to talk about how they solve these kinds of problems, with specific examples, from the ideas to the algorithms to the implementation and growth.
