This is a long version of the drive to the telescopes at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The voice-over is additional interview footage form the main viedo we made about observing at Mauna Kea for the Sixty Symbols video channel. The main video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yn5pHqENfJA
Do they allow camping near the summit? I like looking at the stars with my giant binoculars and want to take my family up there.

Could you maybe point the camera out the window so we can see the road and not the damn SUN!! And when I went to hawaii and rented a wrangler they had no problem with us taking it up the mountain...

is it better to see the sunrise or the sunset?

You shouldn't video the sun. It's too bright, and you can blind us.

I noticed there's a very bright star visible through the windshield as you're approaching the summit.

In situations where you'd be sleeping very little and you're doing great science like this I'd be inclined to take supplements to allow me to stay awake longer.

It's sooo pretty at the top. I went this summer and we got to see the sun set over the clouds.
