This is a long version of the drive to the telescopes at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The voice-over is additional interview footage form the main viedo we made about observing at Mauna Kea for the Sixty Symbols video channel. The main video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yn5pHqENfJA

  • Do they allow camping near the summit? I like looking at the stars with my giant binoculars and want to take my family up there.

  • Could you maybe point the camera out the window so we can see the road and not the damn SUN!! And when I went to hawaii and rented a wrangler they had no problem with us taking it up the mountain...

  • is it better to see the sunrise or the sunset?

  • You shouldn't video the sun. It's too bright, and you can blind us.

  • its a great place to watch the sun rise. its also a great place to get altitude sickness. i know because i'm from the big island.

  • Yeah, its called Sol.

  • LOL

  • I noticed there's a very bright star visible through the windshield as you're approaching the summit.

  • In situations where you'd be sleeping very little and you're doing great science like this I'd be inclined to take supplements to allow me to stay awake longer.

  • It's sooo pretty at the top. I went this summer and we got to see the sun set over the clouds.
