Ohau Stream Seal Pups
These pups were born in November and December on the rocky seashore either side of the stream mouth and start coming here in April.
They stay in the stream for several days at a time but must return to the coast to feed on their mother's rich mild.
Between April and October these pups explore their surroundings, developing their swimming and social skills. They make their own way to the waterfall.
In the middle of winter over 200 pups can often be seen playing together in the water and resting beside the stream and pool.
