Hadn't posted a video in a while.. felt obligated to post some kind of update.

And before you ask: yes, I was a tiny bit toasted during the production process ;)

  • Hey, I know it's been a while, but would you consider posting your config? That transparency is raw.

  • @Ubernoob85 that system's long gone, so unfortunately I can't give you my exact config at the time.. but if all you care about is transparency, here's my urxvt settings from my current .Xdefaults: dpaste.com/559975/

  • Hi, do you still use ratpoison at all? I just wanted to say that seeing this video made me try ratpoison (and the uzbl browser which I had never heard of before until seeing this vid) on one of my older boxes and I love it :)

I couldn't believe how simple and easy it was to use right after installation, I'd used Awesome before so tiling wasn't anything new to me, but this is even simpler for me without all the Lua stuff etc.

    Thanks!

  • @ElderSnake90

That's the reason I use ratpoison. I don't really care how my desktop looks (though that's not to say you can't have a nice looking setup with rp), I just want it to function. Should I decide to extend it, I don't want to spend 3 hours screwing with rc/conf files and learning a huge API.. ratpoison has just enough functionality to get everything that I want done. It's amazing how much you can do with something so simple.

  • I'm confused, though, because it does seem like the speaker *is* using his "rodent" for various things in the video. What operations do you still perform with the mouse?

  • @j7gy8b in the video I'm mainly using it for pointing.. similar to a laser pointer at a conference/presentation. Obviously though, if you use applications that are designed to be used with a mouse (e.g. gimp, firefox), then you would still be using your mouse with them, but all of the window management functions would be done with the keyboard (i.e. resizing the window, closing it, switching to another window, splitting the screen, etc).

  • @igneousphantom Thanks a ton! :)

  • you gotta cool voice dude, baritone

  • yay ratpoison!!

  • @igneousphantom cheers, yeah, well I have a nice background and transparent terminals, so I'm happy ;) I don't need much anyway, having all those themes and widgets can just make me tempted to keep looking for new and different ones, which I'm sure is the same for a lot of people.
