@magowasf The problem is not campaign contributions, but the fact that politicians and bureaucrats have the power to pick winners and losers in the marketplace. If the government didn't have the power to, for example, give loans to companies like solyndra or bail out companies, but was restricted to simply protecting our rights, all the campaign contributions and bribes in the world couldn't do anything.

@magowasf Alas, the "service" that was sold was my money and liberty. I don't think limiting campaign donations is the answer however as this could be used to stifle my meager contributions to the Ron Paul campaign. What is needed is a better educated public. Eliminating state education and education mandates would be very helpful. Reviewing all laws for compliance to the Constitution would reduce the scope of govt and the attendant incentive for rent seeking. Ron Paul 2012!!

I agree..but in theory only. Much of the money most politicians receive while in office is legal...albeit immoral, but legal. And we can label it cronyism, corporatism, corporate personhood...while they call it free speech and the right to support whoever they choose in a free democracy. And maybe the politicians and bureacrats believe they have worked hard to get elected and they are simply offering a 'service' in return for money.
